We have Approval!!

Well we found out at 9:11 this morning that we received ICAB approval on May 15!!! Our file reached ICAB on February 26, so that is roughly a three month wait but it will be well worth it in the end. I am just so excited to finally be on the official waitlist. I'm really hoping to receive a referral in two years or less. I would love to have the child home by May 2010, but I think this is overly optomistic, so I'm hoping by the end of 2010 we will be parents!! Now to settle in for another long wait!

3 months today!!

Our last trip to Six Flags

Well, it's now been three months since our file was received at ICAB, 3 loooong months. I am hoping that we will hear something in the next few weeks. Someone in the Philippines adoption yahoo group mentioned that they knew someone whose file reached ICAB on February 12/08 and they were approved on May 9. Our file would have reached ICAB two weeks after theirs, so we should soon hear something I guess.

Next week I head to Labrador for work. Labrador is part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador but it is located on the mainland of Canada unlike Newfoundland which is an island. That trip should be busy as we have many children to see, but also fun. The whole Rehab team will be there (OT, Social Work, Recreational Therapist, Speech Language Therapist, Psychologist, Orthotist, Nurses and a Doctor) so there will be lots of company in the evenings. I love staying at a hotel and not having to cook or clean!! We are down there from Monday to Friday. It's still work but at the same time it's a break from work. Hopefully, I'll hear something about ICAB approval by the time I get back.

We also have another trip booked for this November. Brian and I, along with all my running friends and their husbands, are going to Los Angeles for 5 nights and then we're going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico. Brian and I can't wait to go back to Six Flags as we love roller coasters. The last time we were there, we spent the whole day on coasters and didn't even take time out for lunch. We also plan on visiting Universal Studios, Santa Monica Beach and hope to do a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. I'm hoping that we will be able to catch a hockey game at the Staples Center as well. If anyone else has any good ideas of what to do in and around LA, I'd love to hear them. I'm looking forward to some good weather as I don't think that we will get any here this summer. The trees are all still bare, I'm not sure if they will even get leaves this year!

Hiking in Torbay

This morning myself and my running buddies went on a hike in Torbay with our dogs. It was a sunny day although it was only 2 degrees when we started. Sid had quite the time! He chased the cows and got completely covered in mud! We saw a few icebergs and the scenery was beautiful. I plan on doing more hikes over the summer as there are many beautiful trails around and Sid just loves to run.
This afternoon I plan on doing some gardening. I did so much last weekend, but I need to fertilize everything and finish weeding the beds. I haven't planted in any annuals yet as we will get frost for another month or more yet. At times like this, I wished that we lived somewhere with warmer weather but you can't have it all! Enjoy the pictures of our hike.

I just thought that I would add some new pictures of Sid that I have taken over the past few weeks. I swear that he just keeps getting cuter!

Happy Mother's Day!!

Nothing else is new since my last post. We are still waiting to receive ICAB approval. Everyday as I go to work I expect there to be a message from the Provincial Adoption Coordinator. She is the one who ICAB will contact once we receive approval. I'm really hoping to hear something this week.

The weather here has been awful over the past month. It's been cold, rainy, foggy and windy and to top it off, today we've had heavy flurries for the past 3 -4 hours! Overnight we are supposed to get 5 cms of snow. Someone told me yesterday that we have a record year for icebergs in and around Newfoundland. They are everywhere, hundreds of them!! I really thought that global warming would warm things up here, but I guess not! I can't wait for some warmer weather.

Since the weather has been so bad, yesterday I decided to do some heavy duty cleaning. I cleaned out all of the cupboards and closets, washed the walls, and threw out seven bags of garbage, not counting what I collected to give to Goodwill. I still need to wash out all the curtains, bedspreads and quilts, but I am waiting for some good weather so that I can hang it all out on the line. I may be waiting a while for that to happen.

Well my favorite team got kicked out of the playoffs last week. Montreal lost last Saturday night to Philadelphia. They lost the series 4 games to 1. Now I'm cheering for the Penguins.

Finally, Happy Mother's Day to my mom!
