Mom, look what I can do!!

Well today after 31 years, I learned how to ride a bike! Amazing that it's taken this long. When I was small, I did have a bike but my Mom wouldn't let me ride it out on the street so I had to ride it in our grassy, hilly yard which is impossible to learn on. Therefore, I never learned. I tried again in Grade 12 but couldn't quite figure it out and I was very nervous. I decided at the beginning of the summer that my goal for this summer was going to be to learn to ride a bike. And I did it! Today at lunch time a girl I work with brought me out on the parking lot of the university and taught me how to ride her bike. Yes, I was wearing a helmet! After not too long, I could go on my own but I'm still having trouble making turns. I'll keep working on that though. I just wanted to share this great news!

Gardening

A few weeks ago my neighbour across the road told me that she had nominated us for the Torbay (the town where we live) property beautification award. I was thrilled to hear that there was someone who thought that our garden was nice enough to be nominated! But since hearing this news, we haven't stopped. We spend hours and hours in the garden getting everything tidied up for when the judges come. Yesterday evening we pretty much clued everything up and I thought that I'd share a few of my pictures with you.

14 months

We have now reach 14 months since ICAB approval. Wow, the time sure has flown by! There is not anything new to report on the adoption front but we are still hoping to have a referral by the end of the year. By that point we will have been waiting for 19.5 months. My fingers and toes are crossed that we don't reach 20 months!

Relaxing with Friends!

I just had another great weekend away with my running friends and their husbands. Unfortunately, Brian ended up not being able to join up with us, so Sid and I were single! We visited the community of Terra Nova and stayed at a friend of a friends cabin. It was right on the river and the setting was beautiful. We kayaked, swam, hiked, played volleyball and badminton and of course ate lots of good food! Here are a few pictures of the weekend.

Terra Nova River

Playing badminton with dogs is quite a challenge especially when the dogs chase the birdie and chew it up!

We just found out a few weeks ago that we are invited to a wedding this coming weekend. Now we only have one weekend free between now and Thanksgiving. Isn't that crazy! Time is just flying by and I really wish it would slow down, especially since it's summer. Before you know it, the summer will be over and we'll be headed back into fall. I'm going to enjoy the summer as much as possible while it's here though.

Sweet dreams!

After posting last night that I am not minding the wait, today it was on my mind all day! Last night I had a great dream. In it I was at work when I got THE CALL. It was from the social worker who said that she had a referral for us for a little boy named Savon Keeghan. I can remember being so excited and telling everyone at work. Then we visited the social worker who was about to show us our little boys picture when I woke up! The dream was so real and it made me very excited and anxious for the real call to come. I guess that I'm not so patient afterall!

Busy times!

Well, we've been quite busy the past week. It all started on Canada Day when I fell off the bed at 8:30 that evening! I know, I know, I shouldn't be falling off the bed at my age! I was reaching over the side, when I fell flat onto my back on the floor. My back hurt alot for several days but is now starting to feel better.

The next evening, I came home from work to realize that Sid had busted out of his outdoor kennel and had run away. He's afraid of loud noises and our neighbour said that there had been blasting going on nearby that day. After 2.5 hours, we finally found him. He was afraid and covered in mud but we were so glad to have him home. That night we also went to the Tragically Hip concert which was great. It's the first time that we had seen them in concert.

I just purchased tickets to David Copperfield who is coming here to St. John's in November. Brian and I love magic so we're pretty exciting about the show. Who knows, by then we may have a referral!! I must be one of the lucky ones because strangely enough as the wait goes on, it seems to get less painful to me. I can remember early on always being anxious and impateint and having the feeling that our turn would never come. As we get closer, I just feel that everything will happen when it's supposed to. Not to say that I want to wait another full year and I really hope that we hear something by the end of this year. I'm just trying to enjoy my child free days as much as possible and fit as much in as I possibly can. I'm sure that once we receive a referral, the wait will seem harder because then we know who our child is and we'll just want to be with them right now! We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

Happy Canada Day!

Every Canada Day we walk or run up to Signal Hill for the Sunrise Ceremony. Isn't it funny, that it is always foggy and raining and rarely do we see a sunrise! We still enjoy it though, especially the cake after the ceremony. Afterwards, we always go to Helen's house for breakfast. It is a great tradition. Today it is cold and rainy so my plans to mow the grass and wash the car have been cancelled. Instead I cleaned the house and now I'm watching Wimbledon. Below is a picture from breakfast this morning.

We enjoyed an extra long weekend this past week. We spent Friday and Saturday night at my cousins house in Gander and then we visited the cabin with Mom and Dad on Sunday and Monday night. The weather was great and we had three trips out in boat. I caught two (small) fish and Brian had a few as well.

When out in boat, Mom and I stopped at this beach while Dad and Brian did some fishing. It was just beautiful. We then had a boil up with moose sausages, beans, toast, and tea. Yummy, yummy!

The dogs both wanted to be at the front of the boat. Isn't Sid cute?

My poor small fish. We let him go.

Last week was a great week with regards to referrals. Joanne, who has waited what seems like FOREVER, finally received her referral for a little boy and there was another referral as well. Hopefully the travel times aren't too long. I'm more hopeful that we will hear somthing by the end of the year. But we'll just have to wait and see.
