Woody Island

This weekend I visited Woody Island resort with all of the running girls. There were 8 of us in total. Woody Island is a resettled community which is a 2 hour drive and then a 40 minute boat ride from St. John's. It was resettled in 1968 and all the houses were floated across the bay which would have been a pretty neat thing to seem I'm sure. Now there are only summer homes there along with the Woody Island resort. We got there early Saturday morning and left after lunch on today.

The food was great. We had peasoup and toutons for lunch yesterday and last night for supper we had pan fried cod and vegetables. For lunch today we had a boil up on the beach with homemade soup and sandwiches. I'll be full for the next week for sure.

We hiked across the island and visited the foundations of where the church and school used to be. We also visited the two old graveyards which is another thing I enjoy doing. Last night was a Newfoundland kitchen party with guitars and accordians and the mummers visited as well. It was a wonderful evening and we all had a great time. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.

15 months

We are now 15 months into our wait. When we initially were approved we expected to wait 2 years but things seem to be moving along faster than that. It seems to me like a fair number of people received referrals at the 17 - 18 month mark, so I'm hoping that the same holds true for us. Whatever the timing, I'm sure things will work out just fine.

We won!

I haven't posted much lately because I've been away at a camp for teenagers with physical disabilities for the past 5 days. The camp was fantastic and all the kids had a great time but it's always good to come home. On the drive home this evening I called Brian and he told me that we were invited to a banquet for the Torbay property awards. They were starting at 7:30 and I didn't get home until 7:00 and I still had to shower.

The good news is that all my rushing around paid off. We ended up winning in the category of mature garden as well as being the overall winners! We were so excited. We won $700 worth of gift certificates to a local nursery and two plaques. It sounds like we are going to have a lot more gardening to do now that we have all that money to spend on flowers and shrubs!

There is no news on the adoption front but we have almost reached 15 months. There haven't been many new referrals lately but another blogging friend picked up her son a few days ago which is pretty exciting. I'm still hopeful that we'll hear something by Christmas.

Round 2!!

We received the call today that we have moved onto the second round in the Torbay property beautification award. The judges will be by again on Thursday so we have to get mowing!

A friend of mine called last week to say that she no longer needed her crib and highchair. Brian went by and picked it up and it is now set up in the computer room which will eventually be the baby's room. We don't know the age of the child that we will be matched with, but if the child is younger, the crib will come in handy. If not, I'm sure that it won't be hard to find someone who could use these items. Brian walked into the room a few nights ago and said "wow, I can't believe there will soon be a child in that crib!" I can't imagine it either but sooner or later it really will happen!
